New Place, New Studio Space

I am so excited about having a window! I have a long history of working in buildings with no windows. It’s a nice change!

In the last month, we’ve moved from Savannah, GA to Lexington, KY, and I have started a new full-time job as a repair jeweler. Having so much newness in my life is pretty exhausting, so it took me a while to get my new studio space set up. This isn’t my permanent studio yet, but I will be making this space work for a few years.

Homework

Besides setting up my workspace, I have been spending a lot of time researching business practices. Over the course of the next three or so years, my goal is to set up and run my own profitable studio jewelry business. There are tons of great resources I have been digging into. My favorite so far has been Megan Auman’s Designing an MBA. Not only does she share how she made her own jewelery business successful, but she has guest posts from other business people as well- lots of really good FREE advice for anyone interesting or running an artistic business!

Getting started on a new product line

I am also in the early stages of creating a new product line. Earlier this year, I made some earrings from some exotic woods. The design is really simple, letting the natural beauty of the wood be the star. I have been thinking for awhile now that I would like to pursue more designs with wood. Although I’m still in the research and development stage, I am getting pretty excited about my direction. Last night, I thought I came up with a great name for my line featuring exotic wood and gemstones- “sticks and stones.” Sadly, there are a crowd of other companies using that name. My first idea usually isn’t my best anyway! If you have any ideas, I would love to hear your comments!
